Empowering Futures Since 2011

At the Academy for Urban Scholars (AUS), our mission is to empower students to become college-ready, work-ready, and socially responsible leaders. We foster critical thinking, resilience, and lifelong learning to prepare them for success in a diverse global community

Founding STory

Founded in 2011 by visionaries John Gregory and Pamela Gregory, The Academy for Urban Scholars (AUS) began in Columbus, Ohio, with a bold mission to transform urban education. Their commitment to equity and innovation quickly gained traction, leading to the opening of the Youngstown campus in 2013, followed by expansions into Canton and most recently Toledo.

John and Pamela Gregory are the founders of the Academy for Urban Scholars and its parent organization, the National Center for Urban Solutions headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. The Gregory’s also founded the African American Male Wellness Agency and NCUS TEC, a technical career college.

The couple is committed to improving urban communities through workforce opportunities, education, and wellness. Their work has touched tens of thousands of lives nationwide. They are excited about future opportunities to create meaningful change.
